Product Master

What is product master?

It provides information regarding all the products that your organization purchases and sells. It is a central source from which product specific data can be retrieved. Product information is used in marketing, sales and service 
purpose.

Typically product masters are transferred over from ECC ( Sometimes Service and warranty items are created in SAP CRM ). When product master is transferred over from SAP ECC, it fundamentally belongs to a product hierarchy R3PRODSTYP.
Product types in SAP CRM

Material, Services, Warranty, financing, ip and Finance service products. These are predefined in the system. Product maintenance takes place on SAP CRM Web Client UI and the user role determines which product types can be maintained by that user. For example, warranty and services product types can be maintained by users with "service professional" role. 


Product master enhancement

To create a product, we need 4 levels to define.
1) Hierarchy 2) Category 3) Set types 4) Attributes

Hierarchy--> Example: Computer
Category--> Example: Desktop, Laptop
Set types--> Example: Monitor charecteristics
Attribute--> Example: Colour (Black/white), Size (15' or 17'), Brand (LG, Samsung)

How to create new attribute, Set type, Hierarchy and Category

Enter transaction code COMM_ATTRSET to define attribute and set type> Enter attribute name/code to be created (example: zzbrand) > click on create> In the "short text" field, give brief description of attribute and select attribute type and length> Click value range and add new value range- example: Samsung. LG, Apple etc for attribute "brand" > SAVE 

Now use back button to go back to previous page and select Set type> Enter name/code of new set type (example: zzcellphone) and click create>  Add description of set type> Clicl product type (example:Material) and enter> click on assign attributes> add attribute name/code that we created earlier under attribute and enter

With this attribute "zzbrand" is created and is assigned to set type "zzcellphone". Now in order to make this visible in the product master, we need to create custom hierarchy and category.
